My Grandfather’s Poems

Some time ago I came across several religious poems written over 80 years ago by my grandfather Leonard Burton Gardner, Sr. They sparked thought and explanation about the meaning of life for even a non-poetry guy like me. My grandfather called his collection Lifting the Veil and it has not been available to the public until now.

As stated in the book’s dedication, no subject has been more bitterly attacked than Christ’s birth, His life’s history, the miracles He performed, the cures He wrought, His death, resurrection, transfiguration, and the historical events leading up to and including His ascension. As stated in the Introduction: “We have followed the footsteps of Jesus when He lived upon earth and walked among men Portraying his miraculous birth Life, ministry, and crucifixion on earth. Miracles performed and the parables He taught To quicken the faith to the reader are brought Christ’s resurrection we also give To prove that His spirit and teachings still live.

His transfiguration we have also told That you may not the faith in the unseen withhold We submit this tribute, dear friend to you
